A timely post in reference to the Olympics...whether you embrace it or escaping it there is no denying that a lot is going on in London tawn.
I am delighted and honoured to be have participated in a commission from The Photographers Gallery London in response to the diversity of culture in London - The World in london
"Coinciding with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, this project brings together 204 portraits of 204 Londoners, each originating from one of the competing nations."
Here s the pics:
I chose Bolivia and have to say Im disappointed with my image. It s a predictable Pannack and I wish I'd done something more creative.
My initial chosen subject was actually Annie, head of the Anglo Bolivian Society and I was absolutely gutted when she withdrew her model release...
I completely respect her decision and she explained she felt uncomfortable representing Bolivia as she did not aesthetically have the stereotypical characteristics of a Bolivian woman. I explained that culture is not necessarily a visual thing and that belonging to a community was what I wanted to focus on rather than traditional dress. However she felt uncomfortable therefore I scouted and quickly took Oscar's portrait.
The exhibition in Victoria park is a crucial visit in this divine weather ..OAO x
